There are moments in every career that transform us.
Sometimes it’s landing the dream job.
Sometimes it’s losing one.
Sometimes it’s the mentor who took a chance on us, the colleague who opened a door, or the conversation that gave us the confidence to take the next step.
I’ve come to believe that careers are rarely built alone. They’re built through people. It really does take a village.
That truth is one of the many reasons I’m so honored to serve as your President of The Alliance for Women in Media, DFW.
Our industry is evolving faster than ever. Technology is reshaping how we create, consume, and distribute content. Traditional career paths are giving way to new opportunities, and many of us are navigating jobs that didn’t even exist a few years ago. While change can be exciting, it can also be isolating, confusing, and down right scary.
That’s where organizations like The Alliance for Women in Media, DFW matter.
We’ve never been just about networking events or professional development. We are about creating a community where people are willing to share what they’ve learned, celebrate one another’s successes, offer support through challenges, and make introductions that can change the trajectory of someone’s career.
As I begin this year, my hope is that every member feels like they belong here. Whether you’re a student just entering the industry, a seasoned executive, an entrepreneur building something new, or someone simply looking for the next chapter in your career.
I want you to know that you belong here.
This chapter exists to connect you with people who will challenge you, champion you, and celebrate your success.
I also believe our greatest responsibility is to leave this industry better than we found it. Every conversation we have, every event we host, every scholarship we award, and every mentorship we foster is an opportunity to open a door for someone else. Lasting change doesn’t happen in one big moment. It happens through countless small investments in one another.
One of my favorite quotes is, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” I believe that’s exactly what AWM-DFW represents. When we invest in one another, share our knowledge, and celebrate each other’s wins, we don’t just elevate individuals, we elevate our entire industry.
To our returning members, thank you for your continued investment in this community. To those joining us for the first time, welcome. We are genuinely glad you’re here.
I also want to thank our incredible Board of Directors, committee chairs, volunteers, sponsors, and past presidents whose dedication makes this organization possible. I have the privilege of serving because of the foundation they have built, and I am deeply grateful for their leadership.
I’m excited for what lies ahead. Together, we’ll continue creating meaningful opportunities to connect, learn, mentor, and grow; not just as media professionals – but as people.
