James Trussell – Judy Miller Student Media Tour Essay Winner

James Daniel Trussell is a student at Tarrant County College and plans to graduate by spring 2021. He is pursuing an Associate degree in ‘Radio, Television, and Film’ and currently holds a 4.0 GPA. At school, James is a member of the Digital Media Arts Club where he participates in fundraising projects and media events on campus. Trussell enjoys hiking, reading, and taking photos with his 35mm SLR camera. James, also, volunteers for Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas where he stocks their food pantry and serves low-income families.  In addition, Trussell enjoys challenging himself with physical or mental tasks. A physical challenge he overcame was running his first marathon. An example of a mental challenge was reciting poetry at an open-mic night.

Recently, James worked for the non-profit Samaritan’s Purse where he coached volunteers to prepare gifts for children in third world countries. In addition, Walt Disney World and Warner Bros. Studios have hired him in roles such as educator, public speaker, and clerk. The experiences he gained from these companies were integral to him choosing to pursue his education in media.

After graduating, he will seek job opportunities from local production companies and continue to hone his craft as a professional producer/cinematographer. James is particularly interested in documentaries as he has always been a storyteller and an educator. As of this moment, he is content to be able to continue his studies thanks to the Dallas Area Alliance for Women in Media.
