2017 Irene Runnels-Paula McStay Scholarship Winners

We want to congratulate this year’s recipients of the Irene Runnels –Paula McStay $5,000 scholarships, Rita de Obarrio & Breck Faught.

Rita de ObarrioRita de Obarrio is one of our recipients for this year’s Irene Runnels- Paula McStay Scholarship. Rita is an international student currently attending SMU with a double major in Advertising and Psychology and a minor in Business.  She plans on graduating in May 2018.  During her college enrollment, Rita took on two internships to gain knowledge in the advertising world.  One with 4Ever Magic Corp (Disney consumer products) and the other in Panama City as a digital assistant where she was able to create a social playbook for Lexus & Toyota.  She believes the more we learn and know, the more creative we can be.  For her, women such as Paula McStay serve as an inspiration and reminder that, regardless of our gender, through hard work we can achieve great things and make positive influences in every field.  After her undergraduate graduation, she would like to continue her studies by pursuing a master’s degree in marketing management at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.  Her goal is to utilize her education to make an impact internationally in today’s advertising industry.  

Breck FaughtBreck Faught is also one of our recipients for this year’s Irene Runnels- Paula McStay Scholarship.  Breck is currently attending Texas Tech University with a major in Advertising and a minor in Business. She plans on graduating in May 2018.  Along with owning her own photography business since May of 2011, Breck has held multiple positions in the advertising field, such as a local reporter/photographer for Town Talk Radio and a social media director at Exceptional Events Texas.  While managing a small business, participating in extracurricular activities, volunteering in various organizations, Breck has maintained an overall 4.0 GPA and remained on the President’s list for Fall 2015, Spring 2016 & Fall 2016. Breck feels that the heart of advertising is uniting the consumer and the advertiser. And she believes her entrepreneurship and recent work experiences have influenced her ability to do just that.
