AWM Scholarships

We want to congratulate 2018 recipients of the Irene Runnels –Paula McStay $5,000 scholarships, Alissa Llort & Bethany Pfeiffer

 

 

 

 

 

  Alissa Llort is also one of our recipients for this year’s Irene Runnels- McStay Scholarship.  Alissa is currently attending SMU with a major in advertising specializing in strategic brand management and a  minor in psychology.  She plans on graduating in May 2019.  She is currently the marketing director at the Women Ambassadors Forum, a student run non-profit organization that aims to  empower women  globally through an annual forum held at SMU.  In this principal role she leads her team in branding, graphic design, pr, social media and marketing.  Alissa has maintained a 3.75 GPA  while being a full  time student and employed at the Hunt Institute as an advertising manager and external affairs team lead.  Alissa feels that Irene Runnels and Paula McStay have truly paved the way for the next generation of women to chase their professional advertising dreams.  Alissa’s personal goal is to continue to  empower  young female leaders based on her college experiences.

  Bethany Pfeiffer is one of our recipients for this year’s Irene Rennels- Paula McStay Scholarship.  Bethany is currently attending Baylor University in Waco, Tx with a major in Marketing & Corporate Communications.  She plans on graduating in May 2019.  This year The Baylor Hankamer School of Business recognized and awarded Bethany a trip to attend Adweek in NYC.   This honor  was granted by Bethany’s college peers due to her classroom accomplishments & class dialogue involvement. Bethany holds a 3.6 GPA while being a full time student, working multiple part time jobs,  holding two campus leadership roles and volunteering at local charities.  After her graduation next spring, Bethany plans to enroll in a graduate marketing program to master her marketing skills.

 

                                 

 

Dallas Area Alliance for Women in Media Foundation

IRENE RUNNELS-PAULA MCSTAY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Dallas Area Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, Inc. will award three scholarships totaling $12,500 in the names of Irene Runnels, a distinguished and respected Dallas broadcaster and Paula McStay, a former Fort Worth advertising executive. These scholarships, available in early 2018, will be administered through the University Financial Aid Office and must be applied toward undergraduate or graduate tuition only.

The Irene Runnels-Paula McStay $5,000 college scholarships will be awarded to two students attending a Texas public or private university that offers radio, television, film, public relations, advertising/communications or broadcasting as the major emphasis of study. Applicants will be considered on the basis of educational and career goals in their major field of study, activities and honors, service to community and references.

These scholarships will be acknowledged at the Dallas Area Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Award of Excellence Gala on April 5, 2018.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR COLLEGE APPLICANTS

  1. Candidate must have completed 75 hours of college course work by December 2017.
  2. Candidate may be male or female.
  3. An overall grade point average of 3.25 or 3.0 in declared major course work is required (based on a 4.0 scale).
  4. Candidate must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (carrying a minimum of 12hours per semester) with a declared major in radio, television, film, public relations, advertising/communications or broadcasting.

The Dallas Area Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Scholarship Committee will review all applications. This committee will make the final award selections based on the merits of the applicants.

Student Media Tour Scholarship

Register and participate in the Student Media Tour along with providing a brief essay for an opportunity to win a $2500 scholoarship awarded at the AWM Gala on April 5th 2018. Essay should be why you would like to participate in the Student Media Tour and how the scholarship will benefit you. The essay should be single spaced between 250-500 words in Times New Roman with 1in margins. Please submit all essays to Julie Mercer Juliette.A.Mercer@abc.com

Scholarship Program
In 1960, the Alliance for Women in Media became the first professional broadcasting organization to establish an educational foundation. Our mission is to utilize the media to create positive change. The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation supports educational programs, charitable activities, public service campaigns and scholarships to benefit the public, the media and allied fields.
